Christian Bale was recently interviewed and asked to spill on his Dark Knight Roses co-stars, including Anne Hathaway (Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (John Blake). The Dark Knight star had nothing but glowing compliments for his on-screen partners and foes in crime. He and director Christopher Nolan agreed that Hathaway probably had the most difficult role, Catwoman being a role that has been defined by so many others. Hardy was described as a “phenomenal actor” whom Bale enjoyed working with “a great deal.” Bale said he considered Gordon-Levitt a “good, smart guy,” but “very intriguing”– want to expand on that, Christian??
Bale admitted that this could be his last time reprising his role as the masked vigilante before saying that the whole production was a wrap: ”Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris– that will be the end of that Batman era.” As for Bale’s feelings on this iconic role, he held that playing Bruce Wayne was an “enjoyable” experience. He went on to explain this complicated hero’s persona:
We always maintained from the beginning that if you wanted to break it down, there are three personas – Batman is sincere, the private Bruce Wayne is sincere. The public version of Bruce Wayne, the playboy, is a completely fabricated performance.
I’m sure saying goodbye to this franchise will mean more time with his family, such as a trip Bale took with wife Sibi Blazic and daughter Emmeline in late October. So Bale seems ready to bid adieu to the caped crusader… but are you?
