What the WHAT? Chris Isaak is apparently one of the top contenders to replace Simon CowellAmerican Idol on this season of . How? Why? Huh?

Last week, season 10′s auditions kicked off in Nashville, but there’s still yet to be a formal announcement regarding the replacement for Simon Cowell who stepped down from the show at the end of last year.

Those rumored to be among the contenders are former Sony Music boss Tommy Mottola, Madonna manager Guy Oseary, Harry Connick Jr. and Isaak. The Hollywood Reporter has said that Isaak has met with show runners twice so far in pursuit of the gig.

Probably only causing Fox more problems is the fact that Cowell is busy casting around for judges for the launch of the U.S. version of his singing competition The X Factor.

The new “Idol” judge is said to be in place by early September in order to take part in the audition process.

But just who will it be?
