Well friends, another MTV Movie Awards has come and gone and once again with very few surprises among the winners. The night really belonged to The Hunger Games and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, although Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 did manage to snag a few wins in there.
Before we get to the winners, let’s discuss host Russell Brand. Russell showed up for his third hosting gig and absolutely nothing was off the table. Of course he made fun of Justin Bieber‘s recent paparazzi run in, likening it to his own issues; and I about died when he mentioned how he married Katy Perry after they met at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, so he was keeping his eyes peeled for a new wife tonight.
Now, winners! No surprise that Twilight took home awards for Best Kiss and Best Movie. Star Kristen Stewart was on hand to accept the awards, although boyfriend and co-star Robert Pattinson was sadly missing so they were unable to recreate the kiss. I’m assuming we’ll get to see that next year. At least this we got to see Kristen make-out with herself. That was fun, right?
The other big winner was, of course, The Hunger Games. Stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson took home Best Female Performance and Best Male Performance, respectively, for their roles in the film. Josh exclaimed, “I’ve wanted to hold a Golden Popcorn since I was, like, 4 years old.” Well congrats sir! The duo also shared the glory of Best Fight with co-star Alexander Ludwig. I still have scars from watching that fight.
Jennifer Aniston took home the award for Best Onscreen Dirtbag for her role in Horrible Bosses, to which she replied, “I mean, do you know how long I have tried to have somebody let me unleash my on-screen dirtbag? A really long time. And thank God this category just popped up. So I would like to say “thank you” to the television show Friends for letting me unleash the inner sweetheart and here’s to [director] Seth Gordon for allowing me to be a dirtbag.” Oh Rachel Green, you crack me up.
The other highlight of the night was Johnny Depp who was honored with the MTV Generation Awards. The incredibly versatile actor joked that winning this meant he needs to stop acting now. “All right, you’ve done too much and clearly based on the clips there’s obviously something wrong with me.” Nothing is wrong with you! We love you!
Overall, I think it was a pretty good show. Russell made me laugh–especially when he joked about how well endowed Michael Fassbender is–and we got to see Emma Watson be cute on stage when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 won for Best Cast. Plus Emma Stone was adorable accepting her Trailblazer award. Good times had by all.
Check out the full list of winners below. Now tell us, what was your favorite part of the night? Overly excited someone you love won? Bummed your favorite kiss wasn’t the winner? Let it all out in the comments!
