Cher, Natalie Portman & A-List Actors Support Mike Nichols’s Lifetime Achievement
The list of actors who came out yesterday (June 10) to support Mike Nichols for his Lifetime Achievement Award from AFI is some A-list talent, but that shouldn’t be a surprise for the director of The Graduate, Catch-22 and Charlie Wilson’s War. (And Working Girl so where’s Melanie Griffith? That girls owes him a little appearance, I would say.)
“I guess I have a lot on my friends and they’re scared,” Nichols joked with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet.
ET also talked to some of the actors on the red carpet and you know that thing Calista Flockhart always does with her arms where she has them behind her back and holds onto one elbow? Well that was a Nichol’s direction. “He told me to put my hands behind my back, Flockheart says. “I didn’t know what to do with my hands and he said just put them behind your back and I always do it.”
Cher recalls the advice she got from Nichols her first film, Silkwood. “He said you have to risk looking like an ass. You have to put it all out there because you never can be great unless you’re prepared to look stupid… He was so wonderful to me.”
Check out what other stars hit the red carpet (wow, Candice Bergen looks good and I haven’t seen Natlie Portman go tan and long haired in…ever?).
