Yesterday during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour at the Beverly Hilton, producers for the Charlie’s Angels reboot explained how careful they were to “honor what’s come before by finding a new twist on a character.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Miles Millar said, “The movies were 10 years ago and were like superhero movies for girls. What we wanted to bring to the table was making it more grounded, making them feel more real, giving them back stories; we gave them each a past.”
The angels, played by Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh, will be based in Miami (the girls touched down in the South Florida city yesterday) and though they’ll retain the glamour and sex appeal of angels past, all three characters will be down-to-earth and relatable. “This is a family; their agency is a family,” one of the producers explained. “Their business is being a detective and the family secrets take us through week to week.”
