Director and screen writer Paul Haggis hosted a brunch at his home yesterday and raised four million dollars through Artists for Peace and Justice for immediate relief and to build infrastructure and support schools in Haiti. Although it’s been tough for many supplies and reporters to get into
Haiti, Haggis took a quick trip over and relayed to his guests what he saw over there.
Attendees were asked to make a minimum $5,000 dollar donation, but clearly the hundred or so casually dressed attendees (sort of wondering if leather jacket was required) reached deeper into their pockets. Penelope Cruz, Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Simon Baker, Gerard Bulter were among the attendees that pledged $50,000 per year for five years and Javier Bardem and AnnaLynne McCord pledged $10,000 over ten years.
Hollywood has really come out to support the devastated country from Hope For Haiti to Amy Fisher stripping. Maybe should Kidman and Keith Urban should hold their own event to raise money and with a new bizarre duet.
