Celebrity Spotlight: Ryan Reynolds

Well, you spoke, and we listened! Survey results indicate that you are celeb hungry bastards, and we at ASL aim to please. So, once a week (starting today) we will be publishing a profile on a celebrity, sports professional, and even the occasional juicy politician that you may not know very much about. And since we are always interested in what you think, if there is anyone you want to hear about, drop us a line (in the comments section) and let us know!

Ryan Reynolds is the youngest of four brothers, and the son of a businessman and saleswoman. Ryan officially began his career at age 14 with a role in the Nickelodeon show, Fifteen (otherwise known as Hillside). After the show’s two-year run, Ryan appeared in several made for TV movies and TV series such as The Odyssey, Ordinary Magic, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Displeased with the direction he saw his career going in, Ryan decided to quit the business in 1996.

Ryan picked up acting again in 1997 after running into fellow Canadian actor Chris Martin and moving to LA. The two moved into a cheap motel, and on the first night, Ryan’s jeep was stripped and rolled down a hill. For months, he drove it around without doors! Luckily, Reynolds landed the role of Berg in “Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place” and was able to get a new ride. The show took off in its second season, and has since helped Ryan land many film roles (most notably, in my opinion, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, for which he won the Next Generation Male at the Young Hollywood Awards and was nominated for Breakthrough Male Performance at the MTV Movie Awards).

Ryan has also been in recent hits like Smokin’ Aces, The Nines, Just Friends, Waiting, Harold and Kumar, The Blade: Trinity, and Amityville Horror (the last MGM picture ever). The buzz around him during the Blade promotional period was daunting. Reynold’s put on 20 lbs. of pure muscle, and he looked HOT! Check out how he did it here.

Ryan recently split up with long time love and fiance, and fellow Nickelodeon star Alanis Morrissette. Prior to the Jagged Little Pill, he dated Rachael Leigh Cook for a year.
