Bret Easton Ellis Says Casting Matt Bomer As Christian Grey Would Be Ludicrous Because He’s Gay

WTF Ellis? Seriously? Supposedly because Matt Bomer is gay, there is no way on earth that he could play the role of Christian Grey.

Bret Easton Ellis, who tried to make it quite clear that he wasn’t discriminating, went on a Twitter rant saying that Matt Bomer “isn’t right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay.” The tweets didn’t end there, however, as he continued his venting spree stating, “Fifty Shades of Grey demands an actor that is genuinely into women. Get it?!?”

Here are the tweets that started off the firestorm.

“Okay. Let’s finalize this. Matt Bomer is totally hot and a very good actor. He is NOT right for Christian Grey and it complicates the role,” Ellis tweeted. “I don’t care how good an actor you are but being married to another man complicates things for playing CG…Matt Bomer is NOT about discrimination. It’s about an intensely straight actor wanting absolutely to screw Ana Steele…the most popular book on the planet having Matt Bomer–a gay actor–play Christian Grey is absolutely ludicrous. Why?”

Bret tweeted at the weekend: “Fifty Shades of Grey: Casting Matt Bomer is the equivalent as casting Jesse Tyler Ferguson…” Ferguson is a gay actor who plays a gay character on Modern Family

The writer revealed a few days later: “It’s a very major disappointment to announce that I’ve somehow been taken off the list of possible screenwriters for Fifty Shades of Grey… @E_L_James I hope you find someone as passionate as I was about Fifty Shades of Grey. I will miss it.”

All we can say is that we’re very happy that Bret Easton Ellis will not writing the screenplay or directing Fifty Shades Of Grey.

Check out the series of tweets below…

“Okay. Let’s finalise this. Matt Bomer is totally hot and a very good actor. He is NOT right for Christian Grey and it complicates the role,” Bret said on Twitter.

“Fifty Shades of Grey: Matt Bomer: I don’t care how good an actor you are but being married to another man complicates things for playing CG.

“Fifty Shades of Grey: Matt Bomer is NOT about discrimination. It’s about an intensely straight actor wanting absolutely to screw Ana Steele.”

He continued: “Fifty Shades of Grey: the most popular book on the planet having Matt Bomer–a gay actor–play Christian Grey is absolutely ludicrous. Why?

“Jesus, the homophobia over Matt Bomer not being Christian Grey is so unsettling and aesthetically retarded. He’s NOT right for Christian G.

“Okay I’ll say it. Matt Bomer isn’t right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay. He’s great for other roles but this is too big a game.”

Bret added: “And I think if Matt Bomer wants the role which I doubt the international press tour will be an embarrassing fiasco. He’s not CG. Never…

“I am NOT discriminating Matt Bomer because of his sexuality. Fifty Shades of Grey demands an actor that is genuinely into women. Get it?!?

“I actually think it’s cool that women want Matt Bomer as Christian Grey. It means that we’ve moved beyond stereotypes and that gay is hot…

“I think Matt Bomer is incredibly handsome and a good actor but I think he comes off totally gay in White Collar. And that is why no to CG…”

He concluded: “Look, all actors are GAY: they put on make up and pretend to be someone else. That’s just a fact. Rock and roll. Deal with it. Scientology?

“Would anyone watch Brokeback Mountain if it stayed true to the original story where both characters are hideously ugly? No. Homo beauty WIN?

“Hollywood is the most homophobic place in the entire world.”

Methinks old Brett E. Ellis doth protest a little too much. He sure seems interested in gay actors…really, really interested. The book is Fifty Shades of Grey, not The Great Gatsby, ok? Why is he so torqued up about it? I laugh at the way he tries to deflect any criticism by turning it back on the poster. Brett Easton Ellis is almost psychotic in his hatred of women, for another thing, but I digress. Brett, you’re a closet case and you’re busted.

    Ellis – idiot homophobic !

It’s called ACTING. What is ludicrous is a non-actor deciding that how a person lives off screen has anything to do with their ability to portray a realistic character. Are women without children not allowed to play a mother? Is a single man ineligible to play a husband?
He hasn’t written a decent book since Less Than Zero. Please shut the hell up.

  4. mm

Actually, Ian somerhalder is the best guy for the role.

  5. Jeanie

I didn’t even know he was gay! I think he’s hot! His body is amazing! His eyes are gorgeous! And I think he could play the sexy,m dark and mysterious part of Christian just fine.

i think matt bomber will be great for the part of christian gray so what if he is gay what has his personal life should not be dragged up because of it hes hot and i think he will play the part very well i have to say i dont think id go and watch anyone else play the part when i read the book matt bomber in my mind is CG what he does in his spear time is no ones business hes a great actor and hot to trot i think he will fit the part nicely.

and whats all this them saying they want a man that wants to screw ann they do know they wont really be screwing ????? so he will be doing what he does best as other actors and ACT

Sour grapes anyone? How is it any business of a “potential” screenwriter to determine which actor will play a part? I was under the impression that a DIRECTOR decides on the actor. So Mr. Ellis, please shut up and stop the gimmicks to get attention.

Matt will be more than good for the role, it’s for the publicity around the movie that “they” will have to rethink the usual strategy: selling the actor as the new macho-sex simbol, not the role (a very good actor very credible in his role), and this change is what they don’t want to do… mmmh, is it clear? :-D

Brett Easton Ellis is an intelligent bi sexual man who has a strong vision for his stories and films. If he doesn’t think that actor Matt Bomber is right for the part then that is his opinion, and he as we all are, are entitled to voice our opinion. I do think however that we should only do so once we have an educated understanding of who and what we are discussing.

homophobic bigot! maybe he is just so threatened by Matt Bomer or hes a latent homesexual himself coz no straight guy could comment like that lashing a fellow actor because of his sexuality and not his lack of talent thereof.

  11. sd

I have to say though, Matt Bomer totally sets off my gaydar. I don’t think I could ever see him as a straight guy.

  12. I was just looking up Matt and looking at his images thinking how great would he be as CG. I didn’t know he was gay WHO CARES!! He DEFINITELY is made for the part.

  13. Kim

This guy does know what ACTING is right. It’s playing someone your not. Matt Bomer plays straight guys all the time. Anyone seen White Collar, Neal Caffery is always sexing up to woman. Just b/c he is gay in real life doesn’t mean he can’t ACT straight for a MOVIE. I don’t know much about this 50 shades of gray, but from I’ve heard it’s naughty and I think that Matt Bomer would be a great choice. He is VERY TALENT and Gorgeous!

I think this guy is just homophobic. I’m a woman and I love Matt Bomer and I think he talented and HOT!! him being openly gay makes me love him even more
