Sander Von Doorn can build up beats like a child carefully constructs Legos. Meticulously placed, one on top of the other, just like clockwork. Yet, if I remember correctly, when I was little, what was even more fun then building blocks up was to smash them all down. And hear that crash on the floor like an unstoppable rebel force. Which explains why we love Sander Von Doorn. He complies one explosive drop of bass after the next, producing tracks that are pure dynamite in the House music genre.
Just like in his hit single,”Kangaroo,” featuring 17 year old Julian Jordan, a crowd favorite. After seeing some of his peers DJ at the festival, I was invited to do an interview with Doorn in his trailer, the artist & DJ hang out spot, located next door to worldwide phenomena Armin Van Buuren and Steve Angello.
E. Nusgart: What is your favorite part about performing for a live audience?
S. Van Doorn: That is actually a really difficult question. I think it would be the vibe you get from the crowd. When I started performing, which was about 12 years ago, I actually had to learn how to play in front of a crowd and it took a few years. You try to get as much energy out of the crowd as possible. It’s looking pretty good out there tonight, so I’m pretty psyched.
More from Sander Van Doorn…
E. Nusgart: Who inspired you to become a DJ?
S. Van Doorn: I’ve been listening to dance music for 25 years now, and I would say my brother is my biggest inspiration. He fed me with beats and disco-kind of dance music.
E. Nusgart: What is your favorite track to play?
S. Van Doorn: One of my new tracks would probably be, Kangaroo. It’s got a lot of energy.I really like the Reload track by Tommy Trash. DJ Umek has some really good techno records I like to play, as well.
E. Nusgart: Who would be your ideal artist to mix and produce a track with you?
S. Van Doorn: Actually, I had the chance to do so. I’m not sure I’m suppose to say this yet, but I am going to tell you anyways. I started out with a collaboration with Mark Knight and we manged to get Underworld to help on the track.
