Beauty Buzz: This Year’s Oscars – Diamonds Are Forever!
This year at the Oscars we saw a lot of stunning and bold fashion statements. This year seemed to be extremely glamorous and extravagant fashions were seen everywhere on the red carpet, with vivid colors, the stars dazzled dripping in diamonds and shiny metallic’s! Diamonds weren’t just used as accessories for jewelry alone, there were several dazzling diamond accents on gowns as well. Here are some of our favorite beauty statements from last nights Oscars!
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Just ask Rachel Weisz who wore a beautiful strapless art deco-style platinum Vera Wang gown with jewels sewn onto the hem and bust, including a small glistening bow on the left side of the bust line. Her platinum and diamond necklace was a very elegant touch to the gorgeous dress. Cate Blanchett dazzled in her Swarovski crystal mesh gown by Giorgio Armani Prive, and her fabulous choice for earrings just an added touch to complete the look. Jennifer Hudson while I personally did not like her outfit (the jacket was terrible and her hair was all wrong) was wearing a striking tear drop necklace and beautiful dangling earrings, both by Fred Leighton. Jennifer Lopez’s lilac Marchesa gown had an antique jeweled neckline that created a chain-link effect. I loved her look – the Grecian Princess look and her Lorraine Schwartz jewelry dazzled and complimented the gown perfectly not too busy it was all just right! Anne Hathaway has such a unique look she was definitely bold last night with her Valentino gown. I personally did not like it on her, however she had gorgeous Van Cleef & Arpels jewels including beautiful dangling pearl and platinum earrings with a three part sparkling diamond and platinum bracelet.
Helen Mirren was gorgeous in her gold lame gown, and her hair was perfect for the plunging neckline. Usually a necklace is needed to add something to the neckline, but in her case the dress spoke for itself. However she was wearing a striking pair of Chopard earrings. Lots of color was splashed up and down the red carpet. I absolutely loved Cameron Diaz’s new hair color and her make-up was practically perfect with a very sun kissed look. Her emerald earrings made her eyes sparkle, though we are not sure what she was thinking with the dress. I loved Jessica Biel’s hot pink halter dress. Her make-up was amazing and her soft pink lips seemed to be the right accent for the incredible dress. Her hair was absolutely the right choice softly swept up with curls. I also loved her dangling Neil Lane earrings.
Straight hair seemed to be another trend of the evening Nicole Kidman, Beyonce, Meryl Streep, Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon all wore their hair straight. Nicole was the only celebrity to wear red and it was a very glamorous dress; she looked stunning with her hair straight. I hated what Gwyneth and Meryl were wearing loved Gwyneth’s hair. I hated Meryl’s Bohemian look and the jewels were big and gaudy – not looking very Miranda Priestly last night.
The men of Oscar night all looked so handsome and we loved the classic bowties seen on so many of Hollywood’s finest. George Clooney is always handsome, Mark Walhberg, Ryan Gosling and James Bond himself (Daniel Craig) all looked smashing on the red carpet. Will Smith is always handsome and his son Jaden looked absolutely adorable.
Best Overall Look with fashion, accessories hair and makeup, I have to say, was Reese Witherspoon. Reese chose a purple gown. You have to be very careful with that color sometimes, and usually brunettes can pull it off better than blondes. Reece’s makeup was flawless, her smoky eyes were gorgeous, and they seemed to match the deep purple strapless gown she was wearing. She also had a gorgeous platinum and diamond cuff bracelet and her dazzling earrings sparkled and only completed the look. A very close second in my opinion was Penelope Cruz . I personally am never a fan of her choices in fashion, but last night she really looked amazing. The blush color was perfect for her skin tone and hair color. The stunningly swirled looking bodice was absolutely breathtaking; her jewelry was simple yet with her hair pulled back she pulled it off beautifully!
