Baz Luhrmann To Turn The MoMA Into Cinematic Musical Wonderland

November 11th, 2008 // 1 Comment

A shower of starshine turned out last night to honor director Baz Luhrmann‘s (Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, the upcoming Australia) achievement as the first filmmaker to be inducted into New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

“I am from a small country town with 11 houses. And to be the first
filmmaker to be inducted into the Museum of Modern Art, to have the
films inducted into the catalogue in this way, it’s an honour beyond my
imagination,” Lurhmann said at the soiree, at which Elton John performed.

Celebrities on hand to honor the director included his Australia star Hugh Jackman, Rose Byrne, master of hair artistry Donald Trump, Zoe Kravitz, Diane von
Furstenberg, Anna Wintour, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter
Sarsgaard, Jessica Biel, Agyness Deyn, Josh Lucas
, and Rachel Weisz.

And now the fashion! Maggie Gyllenhaal strolled up dressed in something out of Clan of the Cave Bear if it was set in the Weimar Republic. She was accompanied by babydaddy Peter Sarsgaard who’s got one of those “I’m crankly, lately” beards going on.  Zoe Kravitz is totally gunning for the cover of Interview someday with tousled hair, salmon party dress and multiple-strapped shoes that look a little painful for her.

And we’ll hand it to Jessica Biel. Who took a deceptively simple black dress and paired it with casual big hair to look like a knockout. Why does she look so much more vivacious when she’s away from the fancy lad?

Featured in the gallery: Hugh Jackman, Rose Byrne, Francisco Costa, Eva Amurri, Ingrid Vandebosch, Jeff Gordon, Donald Trump, Melania Trump, Zoe Kravitz, Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Wintour, Baz Luhrmann, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Jessica Biel, Agyness Deyn, Josh Lucas, Rachel Weisz, Elisabeth Moss and Joy Bryant.

Sorry….Jessica Biel’s top lip looks like an overcooked sausage. She is such a collagen abuser, it’s kind of ridiculous.
