The Mirror reported yesterday that Barbara Walters and Oprah Winfrey were trying to land the very first interview with Pippa Middleton, younger sister to HRH Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Sources said that Walters was trying to convince ABC to offer Middleton six figures for a one-hour special, with Middleton donating the sum to charity.
This isn’t the first time reports have pitted Walters and Oprah against each other. Back in late May, the same story was reported on, but of course nothing came to fruition.
Walters announced on The View that stories about her pushing the network honchos to hand over a large amount of money are completely false. It’s not true,” Walters insisted, according to Gossip Cop. “ABC News does not pay for interviews.” To drive the point home, Walters added, “To make it clear: Would I like to do the interview? Yes. I think she’s a charming, beautiful girl. Will I pay to do the interview? No.”
Middleton signed an $800,000 deal to publish an event and party planning book, and it’s assumed that she will begin promoting it quite soon.
