Actress turned film director and screenwriter, Angelina Jolie, prepared to leave the Bosnian capital yesterday (Jun 8) with her three children Shiloh, Pax, and Zahara. They attended the 18th anniversary of the Sarajevo Film Festival over the weekend which turned out to be a very pleasant and impactful trip for Jolie.
Jolie had earned recognition for her dramatic film, In The Land of Blood and Honey which released in 2011 depicting the Bosnian War of 1992-5 and a love entanglement between characters Danijel, a Serbian Soldier and Ajla, a Bosnian Muslim woman captive in his camp. Her work in the region earned her an honorary citizenship of Sarajevo which brought Jolie to tears as she accepted this grand gesture.
“This means so much to me. My heart is in this city.” said Jolie. “The time I spent and the people I met in Bosnia have changed me for ever,” she added. The film, directed to evoke the emotions of audience members entranced in the story has also caused a whirlwind of emotions for the director, Jolie who treasures the experience of shooting the film in such a unique country as Bosnia.
This is Jolie’s second appearance to the festival, and she embraces the concept of sharing experiences and telling stories through film. “People are here to share, from all around to listen to be together to make art, and its not just about film its about what film means and its about sharing.” Said Jolie.
