Actress Angelina Jolie was joined by Brad Pitt and their son Maddox Jolie-Pitt as she was honored at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Awards at The Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center Saturday night (November 16, 2013) in Hollywood, California.
Jolie, wearing Atelier Versace, received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, while Steve Martin being and Angela Lansbury were also honorary Oscar recipients.
Jolie’s honor was the first of the evening as cast members from her 2011 directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey took to the podium in appreciation. It was an apt choice given that film’s place in the actress’ passion on behalf of helping refugees around the world. “I didn’t intend to make a movie,” Jolie said in the introductory film package, which was narrated by Morgan Freeman. “But I was frustrated by the lack of intervention.”
A clearly emotional Jolie said, “My family, my love, your love and support make everything possible. Mad, and your brothers and sisters, there is no greater honor than being your mom.” Watch the speech below.
