Andrew Koenig’s Father Reveals His Son Took His Own Life
You may have heard that Anderw Koenig, the guy who played Richard “Boner” Stabone on Growing Pains went missing last week. Friends and family were worried and his father, Walter Koeing, who some know as Chekov in the original Star Trek, said his son was depressed. The body of the younger Koenig was discovered yesterday after a group of friends organized a search in the woods of Vancouver’s Stanley Park, one of his favorite places. His father spoke last night at a police news conference revealed that his son committed suicide.
“My son took his own life. Obviously, he was in a lot of pain.” This video is incredibly sad (watch the video after the jump). His father urged anyone who experiences depression to consider help and for people that know others in despair to reach out.
During the search his costar Kirk Cameron wrote the following statement for Radar Online “Although I have not had contact with him for many years, I can remember many of the fun times we had on the set of Growing Pains. I am praying for his family during this time of distress and for his safe return.”
Alyssa Milano took to her Twitter during the search to spread the word and today posted “If you know someone suffering from depression, please do everything in your power to get them help. R.I.P. Andrew.” Later she tweeted a link to suicide warning signs.
This is so sad…it makes me want to go back in time and find Andrew and tell him I’ll watch him anything he’s in and then march out on the streets of Hollywood and use my bossy skills to get him a ton of gigs. I wish it was that easy. Alexander McQueen was outrageously successful and he befell the same tragedy. I can only imagine how helpless his family must feel.
