Peter Capaldi & Steven Moffat

Dear Steven Moffat,

Hi. How are you? Hope you’re well. Listen, we need to have a very serious talk about Doctor Who and what you plan to do with it.

Here’s the thing Steven, I used to be your biggest fan. Coupling? Love it. Doctor Who: The Curse Of Fatal Death? Love it. Episodes you wrote in the first 4 season of the Doctor Who reboot like “The Empty Child” and “Blink”? Love them. But things have taken a interesting turn.

I know I’m not alone when I say that since you’ve taken over as showrunner and executive producer for Doctor Who, things have been a little rough. Sure there are some great things–namely the entire cast you’ve picked. But there have been a lot of issues. I know you want to do some big, grand thing and make Doctor Who what you’ve wanted ever since your childhood, but things have gotten a bit bonkers.

I won’t get started on the fact that you’re introducing a new 9th Doctor or that you’ve forbid people from Comic Con to upload the 50th anniversary trailer. (For the record, I think it’s fine that the people at Comic Con got to see it first, but I think it’s ridiculous that you’ve threatened them every getting anything again if they put it up.)

No Steven, what we’re here to talk about today is what you’re gonna do with Doctor Who in coming seasons. Yesterday you announced that actor Peter Capaldi would be taking over the role as the 12th Doctor. Yes! He’s is incredibly talented and he’ll definitely bring a new vibe to the role of the Doctor. And I’m so excited to see how he interacts with Clara.

So you’ve got a great Doctor, a cool TARDIS and millions of adoring fans. But here’s what I need you to do Steven Moffat: I need you to stop being so full of yourself. You act as if you’re the grandmaster of the universe, and I hate to break it you sir, but you’re not. Get off your high horse and stop trying to do these bizarre and elaborate arcs that ultimately are never resolved. You’ve left yourself too many questions to deal with, how will you ever make it work? And if you pull a LOSTseries finale on us, I will be very angry.

Steven, I know you’re talented, so use your talent for good and not for confusion. I am beyond excited about Peter and all I want is for you to use him properly. Remember, Doctor Who–at its core–is a show for families about an alien having adventures. Let him have his adventures.

Please & thank you,
