‘American Idol’ Winner Scotty McCreery Topping Charts
Scotty McCreery just won American Idol, but he is already making it big. The teen’s single, I Love You This Big placed third on iTunes’ lists of top-selling tracks and albums last week. Not only is he feeling the Idol success, runner up Lauren Alaina placed eighth on the same list. The two are seen visiting the MTV Studios for a taping of The 7′ in Times Square, Manhattan, New York on May 31, 2011.
For winning the top spot on Idol, McCreery was awarded $250,000 as an advance on a record and will also earn from merchandising and royalties on his music. That’s a lot less than past winners; season seven runner up David Archuleta was awarded $360,000 contingent on him recording an album. According to Forbes, the reason for the dip in prize money likely has something to do with the slumping profits of previous Idol winners. Yikes, that blows!
Regardless, congratulations to Scotty on winning such a big honor! Let’s hope the young artist won’t follow in the footsteps of his predecessors.
