This year the 40th American Music Awards will honor Electronic Dance Music for the first time in history by adding a new award category in this year’s show. Superstar DJs, David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Skrillex have been nominated to represent the EDM scene and are the first of their kind to compete for the award.
It is hard to pick who will prevail within this trio. Guetta and Harris both have more commercial appeal, since dominating the radio waves this summer with collaborations with Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, who are the top two contenders at the AMAs this year. So I would put my money on one of these two to win. However, if we are strictly speaking originality and creativity within the EDM scene, my vote goes to Skrillex.
Last night, Nokia hosted a pre-party at L.A. LIVE to celebrate nominees and artists in EDM. There were special performances by Audrey Napoleon and Nero. Musicians and guests in attendance included Feenixpawl, Shiny Toy Guns, Junkie XL, Kerli, Morgan Page and Rebecca & Fiona.
The 40th Anniversary Music Awards will broadcast live from Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles tonight, November 18th at 8pm!
