In what we hope is a good sign for Amanda Bynes‘ recovery, the actress has been determined competent to stand trial for a DUI she was charged with in April 2012.

According to TMZ, a judge concluded that Bynes is “mentally capable of understanding the nature of the criminal charges she faces.” The DUI arrest, in which the former Nickelodeon actress sideswiped a cop car, is only one of several legal troubles she has faced since last year.

TMZ further speculates that the case will not go before a jury, but will instead result in a plea bargain. Sources claim that this ruling will not affect her conservatorship, which Bynes has been under for the past two months.

It has been reported that the star of films such as She’s the Man and Easy A has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. After being hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center in July, the comedic actress moved to a private rehab facility in late September.

Children of the 90′s are indebted to Amanda Bynes for all the laughs (and dancing lobsters) she provided on Nickelodeon’s All That and The Amanda Show. Here’s hoping that the actress finds herself in a better place soon.
