Advanta Sees Tennis Partners Elton John and Billie Jean King Raise Thousands

October 11th, 2007 // 8 Comments

The two philanthrophic giants, Elton John and tennis legend, Billie Jean King, partnered together to host the Adavanta World Team Tennis Smash Hits at Villanova University in Philadelphia. Tennis superstars from today and the past, showed up to compete with the goal of raising funds for Elton’s AIDS Foundation, as well as the city’s local charity, ActionAIDS. $400,000 was raised when fans showed up to watch sports celebrities like Andy Roddick, Anna Kournikova, Lindsay Davenport and Patrick McEnroe play against each other in the name of charity, who were just as happy to be there to help the hosts of the event.

“Whenever I’ve played a tough match or have a good result, the first person who I get a text message from is Billie Jean,” Roddick said. “She’s been so good to me throughout my career.”

I think the best faces being made in these pictures or those of the fans. For example, this woman is LOSING HER MIND that Andy Roddick is standing so close to her. Thank God she brought her camera, otherwise, her girlfriends at work would never believe she was within throwing distance of him! YAY! Also, the guy in the pic of Anna Kournikova looks like he is professing his undying love for her, adding that, “All my friends are on the whole Maria Sharapova bandwagon, but I’m like, DUDE, I’m all about Anna.” That picture of Elton and Billie Jean is pretty adorable, since it just proves my belief that eventually, all old people start to look and dress alike. It’s been scientifically proven.

Oh, please, a lousy $400,000!!! Last weekend Andre Agassi held a charity event that raised $9.1 MILLION!! I didn’t see any pictures on this site from that event.

good call on the ‘old people theory’. i totally agree, and actually am a little frightened. i look at pictures of my own nana… and i’m just starting to see bits and pieces of myself – for now. i think i might be headed for full-on nana-ism eventually.

Those are some big fuzzy balls Roddick is holding.

Which one is Elton John in that picture?

I guess Andre Agassi didn’t have me at his event, because I would have shot his event, as I shot this one. I love that my photos finally got on one of my favorite blogs.

Where can I get my hands on one of those giant tennis balls? My dogs would love them!

So, that’s how it works, you paps have to be invited to an event. Guess Andre will have to make sure his PR person invites you next year. But, really, he evidently doesn’t need the publicity since, as mentioned, he raised $9.1 mil and this thing with Gay Elton and Gay Bill raised less than 1/2 million. Piss poor if you ask me!!!

Even so, I do love Andy Roddick!!! He’ll never win another Slam unless he murders Roger, but he is a nice kid.

  8. Aparently you are biased, any money raised for any charity is not piss poor. And agassi’s event was held in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand which holds several thousand people. Agassi’s entertainment was the Counting Crows, Sarah McLachlan and Phil Collins. Elton John’s event was held in an auditorium that held maybe 700 people. You do the math.
