Adam Levine Talks About Blake Shelton’s Sass On The Today Show [PHOTOS]
As part of the promotion for the new Maroon 5 album, Overexposed, Levine gave an interview and performed the band’s newest single “One More Night.” Although the appearance was to promote the album, Levine spent a lot of time talking about “The Voice“ and his fellow judges that made the show such an unprecedented hit . “It’s surpassed all of our wildest expectations,” the singer said about the show’s success.
NBC created the show in a world where the formula for singing competitions were pretty straight forward. With the new elements of the show, audience response could have been hit or miss. But judging by the staggering growth in contestant auditions and ratings, and the 3rd, 4th and 5th seasons already being planned out, the show is definitely a hit. In fact, now that the show has settled into it’s 4th season, the 4 celebrity coaches, consisting of Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green have gotten remarkably comfortable with each other. So much so, that a little friendly trash talking has ensued between Levine and his fellow coach, Shelton because of each of the men picking winners in the last 2 seasons. Levine’s taking the sarcasm all in stride. “He likes to do that,” the coach mentioned. “But you know what? I’m unfazed by it. He can taunt me all he wants, but at the end of the day, he know’s I’m cooler than he is,” he continued. Both singers seem to poke fun at each other, so Levine ended the conversation by saying “I love you Blake..slash hate you.” Ha! What I would give to be a fly on the wall during a meeting between the 4 coaches, behind closed doors.
Joining the team for season 4, as temporary replacements for Aguilera and Green are Shakira and Usher. The mononymous singers, according to Levine, seem to be getting along with him and Shelton and are “taking to it really quickly.” Despite only being part of the team for the one season, the friendly competition has already begun to include the 2 newcomers. ” When asked about the rivalry with Usher and Shakira, Levine responded “Just a little bit. It hasn’t gotten as deep yet. Once you get really comfortable with each other the trash talk starts to flow. It’ll flow, don’t worry.”
Moving onto the topic of the future, Levine kept his responses open ended. When asked about his future in acting and coaching on the voice, Levine responded by saying “I don’t know where my head will be at that point.” If he continues to do all 3 jobs, I think I speak for millions of men and women when I say that I wouldn’t mind. The more Adam Levine on my TV screen, the better.
In the mean time, catch Adam Levine on “The Voice”, and on “American Horror Story“ on Mondays and Wednesdays, respectively.
