Aaron Carter arrested on DUI, marijuana charges
Pop singer Aaron Carter has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of marijuana.
The 29-year-old singer, who rose to fame as a teenager, was arrested in Georgia on Saturday (July 15, 2017) alongside his girlfriend Madison Parker, who was a passenger in his vehicle at the time of arrest, according to TMZ.
A spokesperson for the Habersham County Sheriff’s office told Entertainment Tonight that Aaron had been arrested on charges of possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and drug related objects, as well as a DUI refusal.
Parker, was in the vehicle and was charged with obstruction and two drug-related charges.
It is thought that he refused to have a breathalyzer test on the scene and was then taken into custody.
The former teen star was due to appear at a concert with Flo Rida at Kansas City Live! in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday.
His reps tweeted from his account Saturday to let fans know he would miss that day’s performance.
“Due to transportation issues, Aaron will not make his set time tonight in Kansas City. He promises to come back soon. He apologizes to his fans in KC and Mix93.93,” the tweet read.
In 2016, Carter opened up to Entertainment Tonight about his monthlong stay at the Betty Ford Center in 2011, dismissing “misconceptions” that “I’m a meth head, or I’m a crackhead, or I’m a drug addict.”
“I drink wine,” he said. “I smoke weed. I have anxiety problems, I take medication for anxiety. I mean, it’s just what it is.”
