Nicholas Cage premiered his new Joel Schumacher home invasion thriller, Trespass at the Toronto International Film Festival last night (September 14th), and wouldn’t you know, he had a somewhat similar experience as his character in the film.
According to the Huffington Post, Cage explained to reporters “It was two in the morning. I was living in Orange County at the time and was asleep with my wife. My two-year old at the time was in another room. I opened my eyes and there was a naked man wearing my leather jacket eating a Fudgesicle in front of my bed. I know it sounds funny … but it was horrifying.”
Cage did not press charges because the intruder was mentally ill, but he had to move himself and his family out of that home afterward. The star currently resides in Nassau, Bahamas with his wife and son.
Trespass, also starring Nicole Kidman, tells the story of a wealthy man and his unhappy wife who are held for ransom when their house is broken into. “It’s a class warfare movie too, about the haves and the have-nots,” director Schumacher said. Each man – one rich, one poor – “overreached to have their share of what used to be called ‘The American Dream.”
