2009 Independent Sprit Awards Red Carpet Photos: The Women

February 21st, 2009 // 5 Comments

The 24th Annual Film Independent’s Spirit Awards were held at the Santa Monica Beach, and while this typically isn’t an event that the women get all decked out and bejeweled for, there were a few women who delivered.

Lucy Liu looked ravishing in the pink Lanvin draped strapless dress.

Michelle Monaghan was adorable in a light blue belted Versace dress. Simple, yet elegant.

Ellen Page dressed like you’d expect Ellen Page to dress. She wore a simple black dress, with a chunky pendant necklace. Very Ellen.

On the other side of the coin was Justine Bateman. Ugh. The plunging Missoni dress, chunky shoes and unkempt hair was the major dud of the night.

Earlier, we featured these individual galleries of the following women at the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards: Michelle Williams, Jessica Alba, Mariah Carey, Penelope Cruz, Mary-Kate Olsen, Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, and Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Westfeldt and Teri Hatcher.

  1. Amy

This weekend belongs to Heath Ledger. Heath Ledger who is dead at 28. Heath Ledger who was still warm when the EMT arrived and the masseuse spent precious minutes talking on the telephone…FOUR TIMES, to Mary Kate Olsen, instead of getting him help. Four phone calls ! It is an insult to his memory that this creature attended this event with Michelle Williams sitting right there in the audience. Michelle was there because she was nominated for her fine acting. This creature was there to promote herself. She is useless and contributes nothing to society. Yet, here she is, business as usual, when Heath is gone. And he will never make another movie, nor see his daughter grow up, nor live to know how valuable and how loved he was.

Amy, it is good to know that someone sees Heaths talent instead of saying he’s only nominated for an Oscar because he died. He was well deserving of that award because he was great in Batman and in so many other movies he has been in. It is sad that The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is the last movie we will ever see him in.
