2009 Independent Sprit Awards Red Carpet Photos: The Men

February 22nd, 2009 // 3 Comments

With the ladies taking the opportunity of this more laid-back of awards shows to dress a little more on the less formal side, the guys had the opportunity to show off a little more of their personal style than they would in a traditional tux and tie.

Emile Hirsch kept it very collegiate-looking in a pair of jeans and a purple v-neck sweater and a brown pair of tennis shoes. Interesting choices of color. Triumphant Mickey Rourke stepped out in a trademark Mickey Rourke outfit complete with sunglasses and a wallet chain. Actually, this is probably one of his better looks we’ve seen this award season, with just a touch of color in his orange belt and silk scarf in his pocket. I can’t wait to see him at the Oscars.

Another winner on stage was James Franco, who was decked out in a suit, but tried to make it casual with some scruffy facial hair. Why do boys do that? OK, at least Bradley Cooper looks like it’s a full-fledged beard and not just him being lazy. Also, I like his suit and the subtle splash of color in his shirt.

Way to go James Franco one award that Heath Ledger won’t be getting.!

It is about time that his co star
Mr. Brolin won for best supporting
actor in Milk instead of “I want to
    kill batman” Heath Ledger.

If you watched the Oscars and Heath Ledgers family accepting the award on his behalf you would of seen that everyone of his fellow actors thought he deserved the award. Most of them were crying for the loss of such a great actor. It wasn’t just Batman that he was good in but there are many more movies that he has been great in the role he played. In Two Hands, an independent Australian movie, he played a young man who gets mixed up with the wrong kind of people. He played a drug addicted in another Australian independent movie, Candy. Ned Kelly was another great role and playing a version of Bob Dylan was another. His portrayal of a confused gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain was very deserving of an Oscar nomination. He was a very good actor but I doubt, shari hasler, that you have watched many movies of his and you really should because then you’ll see for yourself how good he really was.
