An artist has created a line of some of the most realistic movie and music star dolls ever made. Take that Barbie!
Noel Cruz takes existing dolls and repaints them to make them look as human as possible. He takes existing Hasbro and Mattel dolls and does their hair and make up and costume to make them look like movie stars.
Noel, known in the doll community as a ‘repaint artist’, is known for his ability to turn even the most basic figurine into an incredibly realistic version of the celebrity on which it is modeled.
Featured in Cruz’s catalogue are Twilight stars Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, as well as vampires Laurent, James and Victoria, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean and Steve Carell, star of the American version of The Office.
Cruz, who was born in the Philippines, has been a portrait artist all his adult life and painting the dolls for the past eight years. His dolls typically fetch between $500 and $3,500 via internet auction, with his Angelina Jolie doll selling for $4,300.
He has also taken his intricate paintwork to dolls of Cher, Harry Potter and Orlando Bloom, as well as Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep‘s characters from The Devil Wears Prada. The Elizabeth Taylor doll is made up with the actress’s signature make-up looks including heavy brows and glossy red lips.
Other dolls include Judy Garland, Kate Winslet, Emma Watson and Marilyn Monroe.
